🌟 Welcome to Portsmouth’s Adventure Playgrounds!
Looking for a place where kids can climb, splash, create, and explore? Portsmouth City Council’s six Adventure Playgrounds are vibrant, free-to-access spaces designed to spark imagination and encourage active, creative play.

Our playgrounds are built around the Three Frees of play:
- Free of charge – No entry or activity fees!
- Free to come and go – Open access for children aged 6–13 (under 6s must be accompanied by an adult).
- Free to choose – Children decide how they want to play, helping them grow in confidence and independence.
From tree climbing and den building to splash pools, sand pits, and arts & crafts, there’s something for every child to enjoy.
🌊 Splash Pools are available at Portsea, Buckland, and Stamshaw Adventure Playgrounds, with an additional off-site pool near Paulsgrove. Pools are open during summer (weather and staffing permitting) – please call ahead to confirm availability.
🛠️ What You’ll Find at Our Playgrounds
Each site offers a unique mix of:
- Large wooden climbing structures (many co-designed by children!)
- Sand and water play areas
- Indoor creative spaces for arts and crafts
- Gardening, wildlife spotting, and more
- Family fun days open to all ages!
Our trained Play workers are always on hand to support safe, adventurous play while encouraging children to take the lead.
👨👩👧 Who Can Join the Fun?
- Ages 6–13: Free to attend without an adult (with a completed contact form from a parent/guardian).
- Under 6s: Welcome with an adult (18+). Each site has specific times for younger children and families.
- Parents/Guardians: Welcome to attend at specified times.
